Welcome to our new website.
It's taken a few months but our website has been upgraded to take into account the SNP's new campaign look and slogan. Also we have added a number of features to the site that will allow all residents of Clydebank to know what the SNP is doing in your area; to allow you to make your voice heard and to allow you to know about any events that are happening that have been organised by the SNP. As the weeks pass we will be starting up our councillors' websites and even more closer will be the activation of our Westminster candidate for West Dunbartonshire, Graeme McCormick's website. Thank you for visiting and we look forward to hearing from you. Yours for Scotland,
Clydebank to remain together.
Today (21st May 2009) marked a successful day for the residents of Clydebank. A few months ago the Boundary Commission for Scotland reviewed the boundaries for all Scottish Parliamentary seats including Clydebank & Milngavie. Their goal it seems was to ensure most seats and therefore MSPs represented approximately 55000 people - this was accomplished in their review however it meant Clydebank being split in two; with Duntocher, Hardgate and Faifley going into a seat with Dumbarton and Helensburgh and the rest of Clydebank going into a seat with North Renfrewshire, breaching a natural boundary of the River Clyde.
The SNP published a standard letter for all residents in both North and South Clydebank, opposed to the changes, allowing you to quickly send in you opposition and also to add any personal comments to the commission.
We are pleased to report that your letters of objection, as well as the local inquiry - where SNP-led West Dunbartonshire Council as well as the local SNP presented their objections; has resulted in a change of heart by the Boundary Commission and their recommendation is that Clydebank & Milngavie stays the same but in order to bring the population up to roughly 55000, the East Dunbartonshire Council ward of Bearsden North will be included in the constituency.
This is a great achievement for the people of Clydebank. This turnaround shows how proud we are as a people for this town, so proud in fact we managed to change the mind of a government body who's intent was to split a town that not only has been around for 200 years but also made a major contribution to the industrial success of Scotland. But today we've shown that highlighting this fact does make a difference and we're sure we'll continue as a people to ensure the integrity of this town is maintained.
Finally we will keep you updated on these developments as the next stage of recommendations has begun and the boundaries for the regions have just been published.
